The Blue Bengal:

In a Blue Bengal, the color is not evenly distributed over the hairs, but the pigment granules clump unevenly together. When this happens, more light passes through the hair and the color therefore appears lighter. A Blue Bengal has peach-colored undertones and its soft gray / blue color. The contrast of the pattern on a lighter surface disappears for the most part. Just like the characteristic face markings. Blue is a recessive gene (diluted) and can therefore only be obtained if both parents have 1 or 2 blue genes

The color blue in Bengal is indicated by a "d".

Blue Bengals are gaining in popularity and are increasingly seen. A DNA test is also available for the color blue. One can test for the Dilute gene that is located on the " D locus ".

These are the possible test results:

  • D/D = full color, no carrier

  • D/d = carrier of dilute/ the color blue

  • d/d = blue, the cat is then itself a blue Bengal.

Below are the possibilities in a diagram.
